Tomi Kattilakoski( DJ Tomi San)
Tomi Kattilakoski, DJ Tomi San, is a Finnish electronic music selector and vinyl collector based in Helsinki. For more than twenty years, he has been digging through record stores and flea markets in search of the most distinctive sounds of 1980s electronic music.
His sets focus on Italo disco, Euro/synth-pop, darker electro, and EBM, delivered exclusively on vinyl. Tomi is known for his affection for the heavy 80s snare drum, and its unmistakable punch can often be heard throughout his selections. The atmosphere, energy, and rhythm that define those productions have become a signature part of his sound.
Tomi’s musical perspective was shaped during his young adulthood while living and DJing internationally across Europe and Asia. Before 2018, he performed under various DJ aliases. It was during his first journey to Japan in 2018 that the name DJ Tomi San was born. What began as a friendly cultural nickname quickly became his permanent artistic identity, connecting his Nordic roots with his long-standing fascination for Japanese culture.
Tomi’s relationship with Japan deepened during that same visit, which also marked the beginning of his creative collaboration with artist Rio Roberta Lima. Since then, music and visual art have remained closely connected throughout their projects.
For this special event at Tor Road Art Gallery, Kobe, DJ Tomi San returns to Japan with a deeply personal vinyl selection shaped by more than two decades of digging. From Italo and synth-pop to electro, EBM, and rare Finnish gems, expect the unexpected.
